This week was full of sensationalist headlines regarding Sigourney Weaver’s apparent influence over Ridley Scott’s scripting choices. The story originated in a Weaver interview for arts and entertainment section. Here are the relevant excerpts from the article:
“She said: “Fox and I disagreed on how the franchise should continue. But I’m glad it’s Ridley doing it and I’ll be as curious as anyone, or maybe more curious, to see it. I think he took my suggestion. ”
“Fox wanted to go to earth and I said, ‘That’s so boring. Who wants to see aliens on earth?’ I said ‘Go back to the planet’.”
Our take on it is that it’s pretty much the same info she’s been dishing out since the film was announced as shown in an Empire Magazine interview on Aug 10, 2010, and her interview with ShockTillYouDrop on October 16th 2010. Regarding the Alien Anthology Bluray set she had this to say:
I don’t think so, because it’s a prequel. Certainly not as an actor, but if they needed help with the story, I could probably help them because I probably have a good sense of what people appreciate in the series and what they don’t care about. So I hope they’ll ask me.
A little self-promotion never hurt anyone’s career we suppose. An Empire interview with Ridley Scott also contradicts Weaver’s claim
The script, written by Jon Spaihts and Lost’s Damon Lindelof, based on “one single thought” Scott drew from the original, initially follows a familiar arc.
In other non-news, it was reported by a Local Scottish newspaper that Ridley Scott was filming pick up shots for Prometheus on the isle of Skye in Scotland last week, which is in almost in direct contradiction to reports that Prometheus will have a private screening on February 29th, 2012 in Santa Rosa, California according to the (which incidentally has been taken down since its first appearance). One of these stories may be true. But both being true is far-fetched.
Expect more of the same in the coming months with the hype surrounding Prometheus. We’ll do our best to dig through all the hype and bring you the most relevant and factual stories regarding the movie.
