Woman activist commits suicide, highway blocked

ANANTAPUR, SEPT.2: (Women mysteries suicide) Tense situation prevailed at Panyam police station on Thursday after villagers of Chinna Jutur staged a protest with the body of Woman activist who committed suicide against police cases over recent protest against the proposed Nano chemicals factory near the village.

Highway roads connecting Panyam were blocked for (Women mysteries suicide) more than five hours till the government announced cancelling permissions for the controversial chemical factory.
Sources said the Nandyal-based industrialist Dr. Santhiramudu planned to establish a chemical factory on 150 acres at an estimated Rs300 crore near Chinna Jutur village in Panyam mandal of Kurnool district.

Villagers had attacked Nano Chemicals chairman Santhiramudu and revenue staff during a public opinion programme on September 2 while opposing the proposal for chemical factory saying that it would be harmful for the health of villagers.

Panyam police registered cases against the activists including six Women from the village for outrage during the meeting. One of the leaders K. Balappa’s wife Surekha was among the accused.

She (Women mysteries suicide) informed the leaders and also her husband who was at Hyderabad against the police and proposed factory management harassment.

On Wednesday, CPM state unit secretary P. Madhu and other leaders participated at protest meeting in the village and they went to Balapanur for another meeting. When the local women went to invite Surekha to take part in the meeting at Balapanur, they saw her hanging from the ceiling. Surekha has an eightyear-old son Vivek.

Accuising police and proposed factory management for the suicide of the activist who was threatened several times for her active role in the agitation, Chinna Jutur villagers rushed to Panyam with her body and staged a protest at police station demanding action against the sub-inspector and management.

Nandyal DSP K. Harinath Reddy rushed to the spot along with additional forces from nearby police stations following tense situation.

Activists Were not conVinced with the police and blocked the three main roads connecting the NH road. Finally, the government announced withdrawing the chemical factory proposal at China Jutur and also assured justice to the family. Later, the activists withdrew the agitation.
