Procedural tangle for Metro Project
The Vijayawada Metro Rail Project is yet to get the mod from the Union Cabinet, the Public Investment Board and also from various other relevant departments of the Union government.
The officials explain that the delay is routine in nature for any metro project in India since it has to be cleared by various departments of the Union government. The metro project has been delayed for various reasons despite the state government claims that it would complete it within two years. In fact, not even a single work of the metro project has been started on the ground so far.
The officials also confirmed that it would take at least three to four months to get all the permissions from the Union government, if all goes well and in a fast pase. After getting required permission from more than 10 Central government departments, the Cabinet and the PIB would approve the project. Then only the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Ltd related works would commence.
Metro Project MD N. Ramakrishna Reddy stated that they have been trying to get the approvals from PIB and the Union Cabinet, which would take two to three months. On the other hand, the metro authority and the state government have been engaged in convincing the land owners in the city to acquire land from them.
