VIJAYAWADA, SEPT.21: The IIIT Nuzvid campus decision to terminate the services of 70 contract personnel led to a controversy as political intervention has complicated the issue.

The issue has attained significance following the Nuzvid IIIT’s Executive Council (EC) meeting held in the month of March this year had decided to fill up around 70 non-teaching administrative positions on contract basis.

Since then, the reported involvement of former Gannavaram MLA Muddaraboyina Wenkateswara Rao in the recruitment has disturbed the university functioning,
according to a victim who lost his contractual employment two days ago. He doesn’t want to disclose his identity, following the fear that the IIIT administration may not consider his candidature.

In fact, several victims have approached Nuzvid MLA Meka Venkata Pratapa Appa Rao who has lodged a complaint to higher authorities of IIIT, and he demanded a detailed inquiry into it.

The episode has revealed the differences between the EC members and internal administration. When tried to elicit as to what exactly has taken place in the last three months in Nuzvid campus of IIT, the MLA said that he has been insisting the authorities as to how they Would terminate the services of around 70 people at a stretch, which is antidemocratic.

In fact, Mr Appa Rao has sought information related to the recruitment of personnel either on con tract or on permanent basis under RTI Act.

The Nuzvid IIIT authorities sent him a reply stating that there were no recruitment’s from 2014 on wards.

The IIIT authorities have also skipped the answer to MLA’s query over the already existing 23 employees by 2014. Sharing the same details With this correspondent, the MILA questioned the integrity of the administration in recruiting and terminating around 70 non-teaching personnel in IIIT at Nuzvid.

“The victims approached me for justice,” Mr Appa Rao said, and added that he had tried to approach the authorities over the issue and his efforts became futile.
Meanwhile, a few victims who spoke to Prometheusnews said that some persons claiming them. selves to be close to former MILA Venkateswara Rao have collected money from them by telling that they Would get them permanent employment in the IIIT at Nuzvid.

When tried to get the version of IIIT director Veeranki Venkata Das and former MILA Venkateswara Rao, for their comments over the allegations, they didn’t attend to the phone calls.
