Central package to AP draws all-round flak

VIJAYAWADA, SEPT.8: The common public and experts from various walks of life, including political parties, raised objections on the Centre’s announcement of a special package. Now the issue is debatable topic visibly at every corner.

Significantly, the rank and file of the Telugu Desam is displeased on the ongoing developments. Everyone says financial package of the Union government is not specific and it is purely cheating the state.

AP Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti demanded that the Centre give clarity at least on the date and time for release of funds and completion of projects. They said that the state government should react and answer the public when it has got mandate from the public. The leaders of all political parties and voluntary organisations have given a call for state wide bandh on September 10.

Former Rajya Sabha member Yalamanchali Sivaji said that the Union government did not give any clarity on many issues. He said that the central institutions should be given for all the states and there is nothing special in AP. He wondered how the funds allotment for road projects are included for state allocation funds at this time.

The leaders of AP Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti, which includes various parties except the TD and BJP, staged a protest in front of All India Radio on Mahatma Gandhi Road. CPM state secretary P. Madhu, CPI state secretary K. Ramakrishna, Samiti convener Chalasani Srinivas, former minister and YSRC leader K. Pardhasaradhi and some others opposed the Centre’s stance on special status and special package issue.

The leaders said that the state and Centre are cheating the people of Andhra Pradesh. They wondered how the people would believe the statement of union ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley.

They said that though several assurances were given in the AP Reorganisation Act, still the union ministers again were making false statements after two-and-a- half years. They asked CM N. Chandrababu Naidu for withdrawal support to the BJP-led NDA government. They demanded that film hero Pawan Kalyan takepart in agitations directly for getting the special status.

Besides, the Congress burnt the effigy of the Centre at Andhra Ratna Bhavan. The party leaders said that AP has right to get special category status.
