Prometheus Sequel Confirmed!
Fox president of production Emma Watts confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Prometheus 2 is moving forward and may hit theaters in 2014 or 2015. Ridley Scott and Fox are actively pursuing the sequel on the strength of Prometheus’ box office take.
“Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” Watts tells THR. Unfortunately, Prometheus co-scriptwriter Damon lindelof’s involvement in the next movie is looking dim as he “might not be available”. But both Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will make a return due to them being already contracted for the sequel where it has been often speculated the movie’s title will be Paradise.

Up until yesterday, this was but a dream. Now, it is reality. Oh, what a joy!!!
Oh joy indeed!
Because the whole “lets just make another franchise installment before we’ve even got a writer or script” concept worked so effectively with prometheus.
And its true.
Just put a bunch of nice CGI, expensive sets and “sly” nods to other films in it, and 12 year old syfy assholes will insist they’ve discovered something brilliant!
Rob likes to talk all big and intelligent, kinda funny after you see him acting like young dumb child in the SDCC post…trust me guys go read his nonsense…
Rob is a troll
laugh, point, smile, and move along.
>[Damon Lindelof] “might not be available”
This is mostly because of Star Trek 2, but I’m sure they all realize how bad a sequel would be received if he came back to write it, and the same goes for Spaihts.
Lindelof knows Prometheus hurt his reputation as a writer pretty severely, and everyone else involved know people will be more excited about the sequel with him gone. It’s better for everybody.
He also just turned in a script to Disney for 1952, and has signed/is very near signing a 3 year contract with Warner Brothers to get back into what he loves most, television.
I would not hire this hack for anything.
not even to clean your apartment?
Hollywood nepotism at its finest.
Prometheus 2
PARTY TIME : D
Fantastic, I hope we get to see different species and architecture in the next one, most importantly designed by Giger, please get Giger really involved with the next one, let him design all the creatures!
Sadly I really don’t see that happening. I saw a video of him at the Prometheus premier and he did not seem to be in good shape. Maybe this is why he just did the murals this time around. I’ve heard he is basically retired nowadays.
doubtful as stated above.
Are you 12 years old?
becuz i am 13 lol
rejoice!!!!!
And now
?
After all the discussions about the plot and all the negative statements
we finally are back as spectators and realize that the people who did the job
know to do their job and had planned a sequel frim the beginning to bring up a terrific new thing. Ridley, the producers, maybe not the writers
So I’m looking forward to some real gigantic thing …
Prometheus sequel : awesome.
Without Damon Lindelof : YAAAAAY
Lindelof out…..best news ever…..
Hopefully Ridley will bring in some top class writers this time. Maybe David Peoples could take a stab at the script. Or Jonathon Nolan. Prometheus was just an appetizer, now I want a truly intelligent (and scary) film.
Ridley doesn’t know good writing.
He was chosen FOR the Alien script.
Whenever HE chooses a script, they suck.
Truly great news….most people i know were disappointed with the movie, but personally , now having seen it twice, I can honestly say its one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve seen in a while. Sure, it has its flaws. The fact that its not scary is one of the major letdowns. But overall, I really enjoyed it. Plus, the fact that Damon Lindelof isn’t coming back to write the sequel is good news. Who would I choose as a replacement?…..lets see. Only one name stands out as the one for the job…….JAMES CAMERON.
Cameron is too busy planning his 20 Avatar sequels…he’s tied up until like 2020
Lol you are totally right Loon, I mean I respect that he loves his creation (Avatar) but from things I’ve heard he “only wants to make Avatar films” and that’s a bit of a waste, I mean it’s fine with me if he wants to make more but comon he should make another Alien film and another Terminator!!
“Only one name stands out as the one for the job…….JAMES CAMERON.”
Yeah, you would be impressed with “one of the best in a while”.
Thats how the bar keeps getting lower and lower.
Hopefully prometheus 2 will be “one of the best of the last 3 months”.
“its one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve seen in a while”
I agree but then how many sci-fi film have come to the cinema in the last few years? Not very many at all
Excellent news indeed, I love that Sir Ridley will direct it, also like someone above mentioned…Please get Giger even more involved!, even if they have to use his older artworks as bases. As for the writer goes, if they would hire James Cameron it would indeed be awesome, and would even attract more people…we’d finally get that ‘Alien 5′ team that never happened.
After Avatar (and Titanic for that matter) I would very much like Cameron to stay far away from the script.
I respectfully disagree. I think it would be great if Ridley and Cameron co-wrote a script together. They are a both visionary and passionate about what they do. Alien 5 was indeed going to be a joint adventure but the studio decided on AVP. I always wanted the Ripley character to come face to face with the Engineers. Not that I don’t like Noomi Rapace but I don’t think her character had much depth like Weaver’s. Actually, Prometheus was told from the perspective of David which was good but Rapace’s character deserved just as much attention. I am really hoping for a good Alien film in the next one.
According to Lindelof the sequel will have even less to do with Alien. Even though he will not write the script himself it seems he and Scott have already done a lot of planning about where the franchise is headed. However, rumour is a third concluding chapter will bring the story back to its Alien roots again.
where are your sources. I have read almost every Lindelof interview and have read anything about this?
If Ridley can get Cameron involved then why not,
thats just the low denominator they’re looking for.
Cameron scripts are hammy, obvious and unoriginal,
but I’ll take that over lindelofs wallet rape bullshit.
I am so looking forward to these Sequels !! Love Prometheus !! it is my Fave film of the year so far , I have seen it 3 times -
…and I’m this many years old.
who are you??
I probably will not go to the first midnight showing after the first fiasco…but lets hope for the better.
I might torrent it.
No more movie tickets.
thats stealing!!!! imma report u to the fbi
BONZA!!!!!
Like a lot of people I was absolutely blown away by the Prometheus trailer. With Ridley himself at the helm of bringing back the Alien franchise I thought it was in safe hands. What could go wrong? A lot, it turned out. Take away the performance of Michael Fassbender and the excellent effects, I can see why viewers found plenty to criticise.
Here’s my personal reflection on seeing Prometheus. Ridley wasn’t bothered about who he partnered with for the writing, or was he? Fortunately he has a sympathetic ear when it comes to prequels…
Enjoy!

great vid
Good animation, but I disliked it….
No Lindelof? Thank you, thank you, THAAAANK YOOOOOUUU!!!
I’m all for being thankful for every blessing, but think aboot it,
RIDLEY THOUGHT THAT SCRIPT WAS BRILLIANT!
I’m sure that he wont have difficulty finding something equally terrible even without lindelof.
Damn you for your logical reasoning!
And I was so happy for a few minutes at the possible lack of Lindelof.
So more squid baby’s in the next one as well………. Why can’t we get a good sci-fi film oh why?
I can’t even remember what the last good sci-fi film was… JJ Trek was cool not great.
Sunshine was pretty good.
im loving the ammount of hypocrisy guys.
in one hand one of your fave parts from the whole thing is the ted video
in the other hand your preeching your hate for lindloff
lindloff wrote the ted viral and also davids ad aswell.
http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/08/03/prometheus-screenwriter-damon-lindelof-tweets-all/
word
Lol very true
That TED vid was horrendous.
I saved all the viral video’s except for that one.
You can even go back to when that was posted on this site and see me saying as much in the comments.
TED video was badass, then again I don’t know what credibility a guy who talks to himself has (RobThom on the SDCC coverage has), you were trolling someone “are you 12 years old?” question buddy is are you 11?
It wasn’t that bad. Stop trolling.
who cares?
This is the best news I’ve heard all day!
(I mean the part about Lindelof not being available.)
Hell, we might even get a movie that – you know – makes sense.
Like I said above, no lindelof (on earth preferably) is good news,
but the fact remains that ridley can’t tell a good script from a warm cup of vomit.
Rob I’m sorry but you’re a “warm cup of vomit”…
“Unfortunately, Prometheus co-scriptwriter Damon lindelof’s involvement in the next movie is looking dim as he “might not be available”
How is this UNFORTUNATE?? This is great news.
Maybe we will get characters that we want to live and who make sense?
No more “I’m going to cut myself open and have a squid baby then go for a jog and not tell anyone”
Or how about “Oh a tentacle sticking out of my eye, oh well no big deal, time to go on a mission and not tell anyone”
Or “Hi I’m a biologist and look it’s a dead alien but that’s scary and not interesting at all, but an angry cobra thing look like it needs to be played with…
Hey Prom Dates,
Reality’s back. I’m back.
Let us all look into the canon of sci-fi films–and films in general–and think about how many sequels to bad movies (ie. Prometheus) were actually better than their predecessors?
Like, Godfather was an awesome film. Many say Godfather Part II was even better. But the fact of the matter is: It followed an already great film. There was a rich story there. A diving board with some bounce.
I agree that our chances of seeing a better film will be greater without Lindelof.
But, in my opinion (hey, this is a forum), the whole story has been fucked from the get-go. Do I want to see another film with humanoid space jockeys that look like Deep Space Nine castaways? Do I trust that a sequel could even make sense of the non sequiturs and “plot mysteries” established in Prometheus? Do I feel like hearing a ridiculous flute melody played every time a (supposedly) menacing warship takes flight? And, lastly, can I handle another go-around of Elizabeth Shaw and her necklace? (If they wanted to bring religion into the film, they should have worked a little harder to establish real weight, significance and yearning for TRUTH between her character, the facts of science and the impossibilities of deep space.)
Whoever helms the writing for Prometheus 2 better be a good janitor, because they’ve got a messy gas-station bathroom to clean.
Also, in closing, I’d like to leave you all with a quote, which I think is very relevant to a film like Prometheus:
“There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept.”
-Ansel Adams
Hey reality, Truth here
First off I’ve got something to say about your “Humanoid Jockey” comment, have you ever actually seen Giger’s depictions of them in the Seventies?, probably not since you are suggesting they didn’t look right, might you be saying that because you wanted to see those funny looking elephant-like beings from comics??
The flute scene is actually quite intriguing, sound waves activating something so menacing? Brilliant in my opinion, also shows how advanced the engineers truly are. (also loosely reminded me of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, harmless music in such violent scenarios)
Plot mysteries? There aren’t that many if you actually use mind and think for yourself rather than make the film think for you.
And Elizabeth did have a severe struggle with her faith, in the beginning she was so fascinated with the engineers and towards the end, she even says “I’m sorry God”….it’s all there like I said before turn on your brain to see it (most people will never see it because this movie is made for intelligent individuals, sadly there aren’t such great numbers out there)
I don’t believe that they have any mess to clean up
And no to be redundant, But I feel another quote from the great Ansel Adams fits certain films like this a bit better
“In wisdom gathered over time, I have found that every experience is a form of exploration”
-Ansel Adams
Sadly most people do not have that wisdom and will never try to think for themselves and explore.
Hello Truth,
I appreciate your perspective on the film–and especially the parallel you found between the flute operating the menacing ship and A Clockwork Orange’s classical soundtrack. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I see where you’re going.
There seems to be a reoccurring defense for Prometheus: That those who didn’t enjoy it, who complain about flaws, are close-minded filmgoers who aren’t open to the intellectual aspects of the script–and the film as a whole. That the naysayers just need to “open their minds” to the enlightened, sophisticated message that the film provides. Or, worse, that we’re just not smart enough to get any of it.
I’ve just seen way better executions of philosophically-inspired films. Prometheus tried to put way too much in a blender and it suffered severely as a result. (But I’m curious how the director’s cut version will turn out.)
Have you seen Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris? It’s my favorite film. I don’t think you can be a fan of Solaris without appreciating how it perfectly executes the themes of philosophy, faith and personal struggle into a science fiction story. To me, it is the absolute high bar.
So, maybe I didn’t get Prometheus.
But I feel like it didn’t give me anything to get.
Hey Reality,
I completely respect your perspective on the film as well, see that besides you most people who bash it really are slightly unintelligent (at least film-wise).
Sure I think there might be deeper executions of ‘other’ philosophical themes, but the one Prometheus handle it, handled with grandeur, but like I said I completely respect your point of view my friend.
Indeed I have, Solaris is a fantastic film, loved how Fridirikh Gorenshtien wrote the adaptation of Stanislaw Lem’s novel. But I still feel Prometheus is up there with it. Again everyone’s got they’re take.
I thinks there’s a lot to get out of it, but nonetheless I am looking forward to the extended/director’s cut like you are.
Have you ever even SEEN Giger’s depictions of them in the Seventies?? Heh, probably not Reality, you loser. You’re a loser who is not cool and has never seen Giger’s original depictions from the 70′s. You probably wanted them to look like the RIDICULOUS comic drawings. Pfft. Pathetic. You are not cool at all.
Hey guys remember that time that robot needed to study a foreign language for 2 years?
Sincerely,
Rah’s Al Ghoul
I make no excuses about it, I hated Prometheus. However, I am optimistic about this sequel with Lindelof gone. It will be interesting to see what the new writers and Ridley come up with.
Fuck*ng awesome! But why we have to wait so long…. 2014/15? OMG…
That’s actually perfect, think about Alien to Aliens was 7 years, Predator 2 to Predators was 20!, even AvP to AvP-R was 3 years, so Prometheus to Paradise might only be 2!!
i wish people who “hated” Prometheus would just take their hate to a I Hate Prometheus website/forum where you can wallow in your own Verbal Vomit – you all sound so obnoxious and lonely- i have seen it 3 times- twice i brought people who did not want to see due to negative remarks they had heard but ended up loving the film and wanting to see it again right away- There are many Well Respected Professional Critics who consider it in high regard some even using the word Masterpiece -
Me, my wife and a few other friends saw “Prometheus” 3 times in IMAX. Obviously we loved it like so many people around the world. All that “I’ll skip it at the theatre and watch it on video” is just nonsense. How can one compare gigantic IMAX experience to one at home?
Scrip was excellent, something not seen since “2001 A Space odyssey”. It’s thought provoking at it’s best, but one needs to have extensive intelectual background to appreciate it and connect all the dots. This was a conscious decision by Scott.
Of course, there is some nonsence regarding character motivations in the middle of the movie, but if you look at it closely it’s obviously forced there by studio to add action elements to warrant the high budget. Think about it – “Prometheus” doesn’t really have action sequences, it’s not even a horror, it’s just an extravagantly designed sci-fi drama and you need money to make it.
You can look back at “Alien” and find as many character motivation nonsence one wouldn’t believe, not to mention “Alien” doesn’t even have a decent story. It’s basically a B movie that looks like an A movie thanks to good directing and design. “Prometheus” is exactly what would “Alien” look like if made today by the same creative crew.
Whoever is complaing about “Prometheus” obviously doesn’t like sci-fi so I wonder why wasting time online writing so much about it? If one doesn’ like the story, surely the movie is satisfying visual eye candy. But this candy can’t be appretiated at home and repeat viewers prove that.
Wow….are you even an Alien fan? First off Alien was no B movie. Yes, it had a simple plot/story but the acting and character development is what makes this film a classic and blows Prometheus away.
educate yourself…..watch these Alien documentaries…especially the one with Sandy Liberson, VP of Fox Productions.
http://www.zen171398.zen.co.uk/Alien.html
Hi Michael,
For one, I don’t “hate” Prometheus. But seeing as how I have many, many qualms with it, I appreciate going to a forum where I can have a discussion with other R. Scott / Alien fans. What’s the point of a forum if everyone is posting unanimous like or dislike of a topic? Sounds pretty boring if you ask me.
Secondly, you sound a bit defensive about people disagreeing that this was a perfect film or a masterpiece, etc. I don’t care about the Well Respected Professional Critics, per se. One could argue that I have the same credentials they do. People with opinions… that’s what they are, and that’s what this place hosts.
Sometimes liking or disliking a film is a bit more complex than just “love it” / “hate it.” I saw Prometheus twice. I’ll probably see it a third time. There were elements that I liked (see prior posts) and elements that I disliked, which were many (see prior posts).
I’d love to hear your feedback on what you appreciated in the film–the plot, characters, etc.
Meanwhile, I’ll look around for an I Hate Prometheus website/forum. I’m sure there are many, but will they be as entertaining as this one?

Purveyor of Verbal Vomit Since June 8, 2012
lol, everyone’s a critic these days. Also, you will find lots of critics who thought it was disappointing. Watch YouTube much.
Hey Xeno Fan how are ya buddy? Lol don’t worry I’m not here to argue with you, just wanted to say that most YouTube reviews are positive.
How could I forget. :O How are ya….just enjoying the news that your savior of the Alien franchise won’t be returning.
The savior of the Alien franchise is Sir Ridley Scott, still I think Lindelof wrote it A LOT better than most people think, and I know for a fact several other writers would have made a true shit out of it. But all in all I am optimistic to see who will get the privilege to get on board and write it. Ronald Shusset should write it and maaaaaayyyybe James Cameron since Dans gone…
Personally, I would like Cameron and Ridley to both write it. However, I don’t think Ridley would collaborate with Cameron. It would have been neat to see O’Bannon and Shusset write the scripts for these films…no doubt. After all, they were the masterminds of Alien with some of it rewritten by David Giler and Walter Hill. Most people don’t even know this but Alien was actually going to be directed by Walter Hill. However, he was unable to direct and Scott was chosen. I am a hardcore Alien fan my friend. I hate Damon Lindelof…and I think Ridley made a mistake choosing him. Anyways, Lindelof is out and I could not be happier!
If there were not other Alien fans out there that disliked it, I guess you would be reading the headline Lindelof onboard for Prometheus sequel. lol
Who all wants Fox to dump Prometheus 2 and make an Alien 5 with Ripley? Ripley going back to LV426 and then the Jockey/Alien homeworld. It would be so damn good.
Hell, I’ll even take an Aliens Colonial Marines film like the upcoming game coming out that positions itself between Alien 3 and Ressurection. There was a hell of a lot of time between Alien 3 and Ressurection. I like the idea of visiting the planet afterwards and seeing possibly new xenobiology and Weyland-Yutani’s involvement on the colony and finding the derelict. Why can’t Fox make films that fans of the franchise want to see. Cameron to direct of course. I am a huge fan of Lance Henrickson and would be great to see him in another Alien film as Bishop 2 or Peter Weyland’s brother.
Fanservice is what gave us AvP. Scott is right, the xenos, eggs and chestbursters are all played out. For God’s sake, there are 6 whole movies full of them.
I fully support video games like CM though, it’s a very different medium, they don’t stand in the way of movies like Prometheus being made, aren’t canon and are easily ignored by those who aren’t interested.
Ur all gay fags, Ripley was so much better than any of the females in Prometheus.
Ripley had big vagina lips
Prometheus hurt my brain, i just wanted to see aliens all over again
Im away to kill myself
the above troll is not the real Xeno Fan.
