First Look at the “Elder Engineer” and More Behind The Scenes Photos
We now have our first look at the reported “Elder Engineer” played by Matthew Rook and all of this suggests scenes of the opening being filmed that didn’t make it to the theatrical cut. Also we have a ton of other behind-the-scenes Engineer photos from Ian Whyte undergoing make up to on set snapshots on The Juggernaut as the Last Engineer awakens from stasis. Enjoy.

so, the engineers can get old. They haven’t conquered the ageing process. Maybe this is another reason they are violent to humans who want youth. I hope Prometheus makes enough money for a sequel or two.
Aging? Aren’t those pictures of Weyland?
uh…hello?
“I hope Prometheus makes enough money for a sequel or two.”
I wouldn’t necessarily mind seeing someone try to fix it.
My only problem would be that if it does make money people might think that lindelof knows what he was doing and bring him back again.
I would only want to see any sort of sequel if lindelof could be extricated from the process.
In fact maybe Ridley should move on too.
I’d rather see him do the Cormac project then spend his last days filming more bad scripts.
I seriously don’t understand why Ridley Scott is so idolised. Sure, he made two or three fantastic films a very long, long time ago but since then, he made a truckload of very average (if not plain out bad) films. This whole following of blind devotion is very confusing. And let’s not blame Lindelof for being a weak writer, let’s blame Scott and the producers for choosing such a weak script. Scott absolutely loves the script.
That said, I really enjoyed the film. Could it have been better? Absolutely, in a many many ways, but I still really enjoyed the film and it didn’t offend me in anyway.
Who said the Sacrifice Engineer was organic like the Elder Engineer? Did you notice that the latter Engineer had his suit infused with his body? There’s more to this story than meets the eye.
Sorry but his suit was not “infused with his body”, it was just a suit they wear when traveling. This is confirmed in the Collector’s Edition extras. The only infusing that happens is when they sit in the iconic chair and certain parts attach or sheathe them.
Cheers.

Status Update:
Henceforth you shall no longer be known as the Image King, you shall henceforth be know as :
THE IMAGE GOD!
The Engineers visual design is so fing great!
I never thought that I would write this but here I go: the movie sucked! I tried to like it, but there so much stupidity in it, that I can’t believe Ridley Scott is behind it. I went to the theater to be amazed and what I got was dooped. I am going to imagine this movie never happened, thankfully I’m glad it took place far away from ALIEN, I wish it was a totally different universe at all. ALIEN RESURRECTION is even better. Up yours! and for me, the space jockey in ALIEN, remains a mistery, as it should have been all along, and I am going to dismissed this movie. YUK!
So stay away from commenting on Prometheus and enjoy such masterpieces as Transformers and Battleship and leave the people who love the film enjoy the banter and future speculation on the myriad of questions and themes the film raises. Not to mention the superb cinematography set design sfx acting, in short the whole film.
Special effects and visuals were great but it was expected-its 2012. Sorry but the story, acting and pacing was terrible.
Here we all are once again referring to personal taste as fact. Oh humans, haven’t we learned anything by now?
People are so hot that this film turned out to be just “okay” (and not excellent) that this amazing statement shows up from time to time: “Alien Resurrection was better.”
No. It wasn’t.
Regardless of what you thought of Prometheus, it made logical sense: The black goo is like DNA superfertilizer… a fast-forward button on evolution. Okay, fine.
You don’t have to accept the common consensus that Alien Resurrection is just a horrible film, because the script so full of bad biology to the point that it makes no sense at all. It’s a truly nonsensical film.
I agree with you 100%. I was a huge fan of the movie, visited this site every single day, saw all the trailers 200+ times, and expected something that will blow my mind, like the first Alien. My, my brother, and one of my best friends went to the premiere of the film in my country, and went out completely depressed. We sat, in silence, as we tried to fathom why did Ridley Scott make such a quasy intelectual, non scary, and utterly B movie. My movie geek died that day, as he slit open his vains and shit himself to death.
Can’t agree more on dismissing this movie, to me, the original GIGER’s Space Jockey was a deeply mysterious piece of art, and certainly not a lame humanoid dressed in metal suit.
My thoughts exactly. I watched every day all the trailers, clips and was excited as hell! And then… what a disappointment. There is no much difference between this and transformers or battleship. Good looking movies with bad and shallow scripts. But, still, I’m fascinated with all the visual effects and the look of everything.
Excellent review sir, “I didn’t like it… stupid, up yours.” Also, *mystery.
Yes, Jesus, yes, we can see Weyland behind the S Engineer in the first picture! What a new secret revealed! What a fantastic piece of information! ……………………………………. Recognized by Anonymous…
after getting a closer look at this engineer from the stasis chamber, that guy is FUCKING SCARY EVIL !!! more giger in that guy alone than in all 4 alien movies combined…….he’s gigers and clive barkers lovechild……and that scares the shit out of me!!!
The Engineer looks like an imp on that majestic chair, comparing to the size of the Space Jockey found in Alien. Absolutely ridiculous inconsistency all the way.
I am very sad thinking how great this film could have been and how average the final product really is. A mess of “Lost” type of concepts, sub-plots and motives randomly thrown in, with no real intention of being explained or at least logically connected.
Such a shame, really…
Agreed!…
Odd how a thread involving behind the scenes photos of the engineer can somehow turn into a thread for trolls to bash the movie…….do you people have such low self worth that you crawl into whatever thread you can find JUST to bash a movie……that you dont like lol , there are other threads that deal with your reviews , maybe find those and you all can live collectively under your tent of hate………or even find a forum were you can have a constructive conversation about a movie you actually enjoy……..just some ideas , think about it
why does someone’s self worth have anything to do with if someone likes the film or not

The first ‘Engineer’ has a very all human physique … The later ‘Engineers’ have changed … So were they were messing about with their own DNA?
i think it’s a bio suit or something like that^^
You think that but look at his arms and neck. Doesnt look like its a part of the suit but more skin. Were talking probably 100,000+ years of continued evolution for the engineers.
It’s a suit. They’re bio-mechanoid beings. Have you seen Alien? The engineer is fused with the chair the same way he is fused with his suit. Have you also noticed how the helmet (hint hint) is also organic?
I don’t know why people insist on imagining aliens walking around naked. Why would they build technology beyond our comprehension and still walk around naked like a primitive cave man?
“It’s a suit. They’re bio-mechanoid beings. ”
You know that could make sense, like in the trailer where he “melds” into the pilot chair.
(Or out of it?)
But justifying anything in this fucked up movie is just reaching for straws, chasing shadows and playing into lindelofs bullshit.
I think that I’ll just prefer to consider this movie non-canon from now on.
I dont consider alienS or AVP canon either.
Yes, only with assless chaps… some fashion is just timeless!
The Engineer is hot !!! I wonder what a femal engineer would look like?
Hopefully not as muscly.
hopefully fiercely androgynous, muscly and bald.
He certainly is a greasy fellow.
He must really love fried chicken.
These are great photos of brilliant, realistic costumes.
The film is a visual feast and best effects I have seen to date.
Amazed how people bitch and man about whether the engineer is the ‘right size’
Best opening titles and establishing shots ever! The quality of the sets and props is outstanding
Cannot wait to see the full length blu-ray in all it’s glory.
We have so many Anonymous-es here!
This is the reason why people should not watch trailers anymore…Most of them never ever portray the actual movie, most of them actually are far better (as in this case) than the movie. In contrast to Inception’s trailer which actually was so so, while the movie RULED big time.
If prometheus was a bit more like the trailer, I would have been a bit more satisfied, now the movie just left me with: Hey, is this just the intro to a more phantasic next episode??? But then, if Lost comes to mind……….
Purchasing a trailer tent has become the best
judgment That I have ever made. We really like outdoor camping but
sleeping on the floor really was inflicting problems with my lower back.
This is definitely resolved using a trailer tent. Blown Away!

Speaking of black oil or goo, that brought back memories of “The X-Files”. There were a bunch of episodes that introduced black oil which was an extra terrestrial material and was used to experiment on prisoners in Siberia. I saw the film in 3D IMAX and it was quite amazing in that format; couldn’t even think what it would have the same impact without the 3D.
Some here seem to believe that others not enjoying Prometheus means they have a sub-juvenile concept of movies as entertainment, making references to Transformers etc.
Prometheus isn’t as clever as people want to think. It’s frankly not a million miles from Transformers.
I saw Alien and Star Wars when they were first released. Had a huge impact on me, I’d never seen anything like them.
Years ago I saw The Phantom Menace. Drivel, such a let down.
Prometheus nearly provoked the same reaction. It looks sensational, but the narrative, dialog, performances and occasional music cues are reprehensible. It’s got nothing to do with opinion. There are some fundamental movie-making issues with Prometheus. Stuff you learn about at film school.
I guess it’s easy to stuff up a movie which involves too much cash and too many heads…we see it time and time again from Hollywood. Prometheus cost $150 mill I’ve read. I’d rather see 15 films with a budget of $10 mill and a decent script and performances than any more big budget nonsense.
I’ve read most of peoples comments and can only say that for some, they missed, due to a poor understanding of the quadrilogy of films already made, the comparisons between this new, and more truer vein that the Alien saga will take us on. Beautifully conceptualised, imagined and converted to the big screen. There was the one question that stuck out like a sore thumb and that was the original planet in Alien was named LV 426, in Prometheus it was LV227. This adds another possible lead for the next 3 films does it not and a real chance to clean up the ever enraged Predator Vs Aliens family who were baining for a blood fest that is true to the books. Maybe this is the chance that Ridley Scott wanted the original Alied saga to take, but decided to take the horns of Prometheus and guide it back into it’s true ending. Looking forward to being entertained for the next 10 years.
Man you people are so fucking critical the reason why you whiney humans didnt like it because its based on the Anunnaki not a dumb inconsistency. That happens all the time in movies and besides you make a movie and we’ll all comment on how it sucked how about that. You geeks have no imagination just nitpicking skills!
So few miss the point and comcept of this movie.
- it’s not the movies you’d make, boo hoo make a movie entitles “Not Promethus”
- the engineers HAVE messed withbtheir DNA countless timeS what i took awayfrom the beginning of the film was this was some sort of initiation or induction in to their military. “must be broken and built back up.”
- the bio-mechanoid appearance (as shown at the beginning of the film) was to show that when one of these engineers takes this “job” you do it till you die.
- if these mechanoid suits were part of the eng. DNA and it’s what gives the xenomorph it’s appearance doesn’t that mean that the xenos are or can be spacefaring?
This movie answered questions and did it beautifully it jumpstarted my fanboy after terrible movies thought him slain. My only caveat and my only confusion is.. When on a hostile alien planet.. And you see a native inhabitant do NOT call it towards ypu and try to pet the goddamned thing!!
Also, i loved that the newly awakened engineer was so taken aback at these hairy bugs that looked like engineers trying to talk to it as if it was dumb.. He tried to kill them because they/we are another experiment that went wrong and he (true to form for anyone who is in charge of a bio lab) tried to “kill it with fire” such a superb piece of cinema anyone making a space-horror movie is going to have to bend their brain to make anything coming close.
Trols? Pack it up.. Go home.
